Optimum adaptation of fuels for powerful, efficient and clean engines

Pubblicazione

Autore: B. Raynal

Collana: AA - 1996 Capri - Energy and Environment towards the year 2000

Note:
It was soon seen that a close match between fuels and engines was necessary to satisfy severe demands for saving fuel and reducing emissions. Fuels will continue to play a major role in the coming future. Their formulation to meet high quality criteria, including additivation, can guarantee engine performance for a long time and their composition can minimize exhaust reactivity and toxicity. The monitoring specifications include:
For gasoline: lead content, volatility, benzene, aromatics and oxygenated component content, etc.
For diesel fuel: octane number, sulphur and aromatics content, etc.
Among the alternative fuels, LPG and CNG also offer advanced performance for urban-quality improvements and they are competing in this field with the development of the electric vehicle.
