The history, aims and objectives of the IFRF are briefly described. The information requirements from flame diagnostics are assessed in terms of energy saving, environment conservation, and finally from both aspects in combination, with respect to the need to reduce specific carbon dioxide emissions. The application of flame diagnostics is described, initially for on-site testing on production plant.
