A bi-dimensional method of forced vortex for axial flow pumps design

A bi-dimensional method to calculate velocity triangles in a complete stage of an axial flow pump according to quite a general and predetermined radial head distribution is proposed. Fundamental equations governing the radial equilibrium of the flow are presented for both the runner and stator, and an original numerical solution is provided to support calculations for a large family of vortex distributions different from that of the traditional free vortex type. This method can help the design procedure when cavitation free as well as separation free constraints are present, such as in special sorts of marine water propellers.
