Today PV power systems are already cost-effective and commonly ernployed in a wide range of remote applications such as electricity supply to isolated users and smali communities; water pumping and desalination; powering of service equipments such as radio repeaters; pipelines and well-heads cathodic protection. PV systems can easily cover a broad range of power requirements, allowing them to take advantage of new niche markets as they develop. Besides such applications a "non- power", low performance, consumer market also exists (watches, calculators, gadgets) that has aircady reached a stable growth condition.
