After a rapid historical review, emphasising some of the errors that have been made in the past, the purpose of this paper is to give a quick overview of some of the most promising trails in the field of lighting. Architectural daylighting strategies are explored focusing on building shape and advanced systems. In the field of artificial lighting, we focus on integrated control systems. To conclude, new daylighting design tools are mentioned. This paper does not pretend to be exhaustive, but the idea is to highlight a few examples that illustrate some key points for good lighting strategies of the future.
