Thermophotovoltaic (TPV) conversion is a process by which heat is transformed into electricity by means of photovoltaic generation. The concept is essentially the same as photovoltaic conversion of solar energy, but the radiation source is an artificially heated radiator at a significantly lower temperature than the sun. in this paper, we describe a high efficiency TPV generator sponsored by the Italian Spatial Agency (ASI) and based on “high efficiency photovoltaic cells” (Quantum well solar cells).
