Heat exchangers play an essential part in a vast number of processes and systems in all sectors of industry, transportation, residents and tertiary applications. This paper will present information on the heat exchanger market and will focus on new developments on high performance heat trasfer surfaces especially compact heat exchangers. Special emphasis will be given on recent researches realized in GRETh. Different examples of recent innovative products developped with industrial partners are presented and discussed in details as well as some recommendations for future R and D activities in order to maintain the competitivity of industry.
