Note:
In this paper we discuss the integration of an OTM with an IGCC power plant equipped with a pressurized oxygen-blown entrained-flow slurry-feed reactor representative of GEE technology. In the first part of the paper we discuss the integration with respect to a conventional cryogenic ASU and the major drawbacks of membrane-based oxygen production systems. Then we propose a new integration of the membrane module with a gas turbine that allows the use of steam as a sweep gas to reduce membrane area and thus the related capital costs. On the basis of the sensitivity analysis performed in part A we have fixed the plant operating conditions and a comprehensive IGCC heat and material balance has been estimated by means of commercial software packages such as Aspen PlusTM. Several issues deserve a more in depth analysis and an economic evaluation has to be carried out to asses the real potentialities of this technology, nonetheless our thermodynamic analysis shows a promising improvement in the overall plant performance.
