Note:
This paper compares Multi-Zone and CFD models to predict fuel-air mixture formation, combustion and pollutant emissions (NOx and soot) in a HSDI Diesel engine. A 1D calculation of the whole engine system (exhaust, intake, EGR and turbocharger group) has been used to provide the initial conditions of pressure, temperature and EGR at the intake valve closure time (IVC) to the models.
