Note:
Multiple smoke wires are used in this study to investigate the flow structure near the endwall of an enlarged two-half-vane model of a gas turbine. The smoke wires are positioned parallel to the endwall and upstream of the vane model. The traces of the smoke generated by the wires are visualized with a laser light sheet illuminating various cross sections around the model and recorded in the forms of photographs and videos. Flow structures for the case with a smooth endwall and the other case with a forward-facing entrance step, flow reattachment occurs on the endwall right after the step. It triggers earlier formation of the embryo of the passage vortex so that its size near the trailing edge of the suction surface grows larger than that with a smooth endwall condition.
