Note:
The present work deals with economic aspects related the use of a trigeneration system for combined cooling, heating and power production (CCHP) in a tertiary sector application. The main objective is to determine the operational costs of the CCHP system for different management strategies as a function of natural gas and electricity costs and the compare its overall performance with the case of separate production of electricity, heating and cooling. The cogeneration system consists of a gas engine for electric power generation, a heat recovery boiler and a double effect direct fired absorption chiller fed by the exhaust engine gases. The system is connected to the electric grid to purchase or to sale the excess electricity. Moreover, a natural gas boiler fully covers the heating and cooling demand. The considered consumer is the Campus of the University of Parma.
