Note:
This paper describes an experimental apparatus developed to investigate dynamic temperature and velocity under oscillating flow and pulsating pressure conditions in a heat exchanger tube of a Stirling machine. We used a two-microthermocouple probe, composed of two fine-wire thermocouples /type K, Chromel/Alumel) of unequal diameters 7.6 μm and 12.7 μm to explore the sinusoidal flow of gas in a tube connecting the expansion/compression volumes and the regenerator. This sensor is compared to two others probes with greater wire diameters: a 12.7 – 25.4 μm probe and a 25.4 – 50 μm probe. The goal of this paper is to measure the temperature and the velocity of the periodic flow with these different two-microthermocouple probes.
