Note:
In this paper an innovative criterion for the simultaneous optimization of design and operation of such integrated systems is proposed, which goes beyond the load-levelling concept of TES operation; its main objective is to make compatible the maximization of profitability of operation with an energetically efficient management. Also, attention is paid on the different possibilities as concerns water temperature and pressure in the heat storage; two alternative schemes are described, one for low-pressure hot water and one for high-pressure superheated water, examining their different behaviour with reference to a 300 rooms hotel situated in Italy and quantifying the annual amount of heat stored in both cases.
