Collana: CA - 61 - Perugia 2006

Note:
In this work mixed convection in a convergent horizontal channel with the lower wall heated at uniform heat flux is studied numerically. The upper inclined wall is considered adiabatic. A three dimensional problem is modelled and solved by means of the FLUENT code. The analysis is carried out in transient regime in order to evaluate the thermal and fluid dynamic parameters as functions of the time. Results for a single geometrical configuration are obtained for Reynolds number equal to 150 and two heat flux values, 150 W/m2 and 300 W/m2. Wall temperature distributions and temperature fields in longitudinal and transversal sections are reported for different time values. Air velocity and temperature in the principal channel are presented along longitudinal sections for some time values. Wall temperature profiles in time permit to detect overshoot and oscillations. Whereas wall temperature distributions provide the evolution of secondary motions. Temperature profiles in transversal sections allow to determine that the secondary motions start from the section centre and lateral vertical wall.
