The paper presents the methodology developed for designing and testing miniaturised cylindrical single hole fast response probes for aerodynamic measurements of bidimensional flow fields. As well known the flow field downstream a turbomachinery stage is not uniform in time and space and its evaluation requires measurement techniques characterised by fast response and negligible blockage effects on the flow. The paper reports the results of a wide research program devoted to optimise the probe head geometry, where the miniaturised sensor is encapsulated, in terms of dynamic behaviour, steady aerodynamic accuracy, robustness and low cost.
