CFD investigation of the internal cooling air flow system of heavy-duty gas turbines

The paper aim to investigate the secondary airflow in the Ansaldo V94.3.A2 industrial gas turbine. The study was performed by using a commercial computational fluid-dynamic code to construct the three-dimensional CFD model, which was calibrated by gas turbine design data and field measurements.
The primary objective of the work was to understand better the flow and heat transfer mechanisms through rotating cavities and passages in rotating disks that permit the transfer of air, for cooling and sealing purposes, from the compressor to the turbine.
