Note:
The analysis of the cooling system of a ground vehicle by means of a numerical multiscale method is presented. The coupling between a finite volume model and a lumped parameters formulation is used to investigate the thermo-fluid dynamics behaviour of the cooling system. The finite volume analyses have been performed with the help of the commercial CFD code Fluent, in order to analyse the flowfield around the vehicle and through the air-to-water heat exchanger. A lumped parameter code developed by the Authors is used to model the main components of the cooling system, while the air-to-water heat exchanger is discretized using of a distributed parameters method. The effect of non-uniform distribution of the crossing velocity of the air-to-water heat exchanger to the maximum temperature of the water has been investigated for different values of vehicle velocity.
