This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (1974). Specifies a test method and technical conditions for the supply of pneumatic tools and gives detailed instructions on the measurements of power output and air consumption and means of adjusting the measured values to specified conditions. A format for test report is included for rotary tools in annex A and in annex B for percussive tools. Annex C gives a procedure of impact energy.

ISO 8573-6:2003 provides a selection of suitable test methods for the measurement of contamination gases in compressed air. It specifies sampling technique, measurement and evaluation, uncertainty considerations and reporting for the applicable gaseous contaminants carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and hydrocarbons in the range C1 to C5 (see ISO 8573-5 for C6 and above). The methods given are also suitable for other gases.

ISO 8573-7:2003 specifies a test method for distinguishing viable, colony-forming, microbiological organisms (e.g. yeast, bacteria, endotoxins) from other solid particles which may be present in compressed air. One of a series of standards aimed at harmonizing air contamination measurements, it provides a means of sampling, incubating and determining the number of microbiological particles. The test method is suitable for determining purity classes in accordance with ISO 8573-1, and is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 8573-4 when there is need to identify solid particles that are also viable, colony-forming units.

ISO 10442:2002 specifies requirements and gives recommendations for the design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and preparation for shipment of constant-speed, packaged, integrally geared centrifugal air compressors, including their accessories, for use in the petroleum, chemical and gas service industries. It is also applicable to gas services other than air that are non-hazardous and non-toxic. It is not applicable to machines that develop a pressure rise of less than 35 kPa above atmospheric pressure, which are classed as fans or blowers.

Petroleum and natural gas industries - Packaged reciprocating gas compressors

ISO 13631:2002 gives requirements and recommendations for the design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing and preparation for shipment of packaged skid-mounted, reciprocating, separable or integral compressors with lubricated cylinders and their prime movers, for use in the petroleum and natural gas industries for the compression of hydrocarbon gas.

It is also applicable to all necessary auxiliary equipment, such as water and gas coolers, silencers, emission control equipment, filters, separators, control panel, piping, etc., required to install an operable unit in compliance with the purchase specifications and with the intent of minimizing field construction and field-purchased equipment.

ISO 13631:2002 is not applicable to the following:

reciprocating compressors for petroleum and natural gas industries covered by ISO 13707;
column-mounted compressors;
non-lubricated compressors;
compressors having trunk-type (automotive-type) pistons that also serve as crossheads;
utility or instrument air compressors with a discharge gauge pressure of 0,9 MPa (9 bar) or less;
compressors driven by diesel engine, gas turbine and steam turbine prime movers.

This International Standard specifies test methods for the measurement, determination and declaration of the noise emission from hand-held non-electric power tools. It prescribes the loading and working conditions under which can be determined
1. the noise emission, under specified load conditions, expressed as the sound power level, and
2. the emission sound pressure level at the work station under specified load conditions.
This International Standard is applicable to typical hand-held non-electric power tools including rotary tools, orbital and random orbital sanders, rotary and non-rotary reciprocating and percussive tools and a variety of assembly tools. It is not applicable to cartridge-operated tools, fastener driving tools (e.g. nailers, staplers) or any tool powered by an internal combustion engine, nor is it applicable to breakers or other power tools which, when placed on the market, are required to meet the provisions of legislation specifying test methods and imposing limits on noise emission from, for example, equipment used outdoors.

Turbocompressors - Performance test code

ISO 5389:2005 applies to performance tests on turbocompressors of all types. ISO 5389:2005 does not apply to fans and high-vacuum pumps, or to jet-type compressors with moving drive components.

Turbocompressors comprise machines in which inlet, compression and discharge are continuous flow processes. The gas is conveyed and compressed in impellers and decelerated with further increase in pressure in fixed vaned or vaneless stators.

ISO 5389:2005 is intended to provide standard provisions for the preparation, procedure, evaluation and assessment of performance tests on compressors as specified above. The acceptance test of the performance is based on this performance test code. Acceptance tests are intended to demonstrate fulfilment of the order conditions and guarantees specified in the contract.
