For many years it has been known that the configuration of ductwork adjacent to a fan can have a significant effect on fan performance. It can also modify the pressure losses in the ductwork fittings themselves. The performance of a fan as measured to ISO 5801 is the optimum with fully developed, symmetrical, swirl free flow at the fan inlet. Furthermore, the straight ducting at the fan outlet ensures efficient conversion of the velocity pressure into usable static pressure. It would be the aim of this work to develop a Technical Report, which would give advice, based on the latest knowledge, on the likely reduction in performance of less than ideal connections.
