Deliverable D5 intends to present the main technical results of the study “Biomass Use in Brianza”, whose activities and contents have been detailed in numerous other deliverables already elaborated or under completion1. The synthesis of the study is represented by the configuration of the selected three best opportunities in Brianza for the implementation of biomass exploitation through district heating projects, one as integration into the Monza DH system and two in the newly identified users
poles of Lissone and Villasanta.
The overall Project objective is the rational thermal utilization of biomass in power plants, both for heat generation and possibly for heat and power cogeneration, feeding district heating networks.
This objective constitutes a very important target of the European Union and Italian energy policy, in terms of least cost renewable energy exploitation, reduction of CO2 emissions, energy supply security, social acceptability, energy efficiency and environmental improvement at local level in highly polluted residential areas.
