Transient simulation of gas turbines and combined cycle plants

The coming years will see remarkable improvements in industrial gas turbine unit size and performances. On the other hand, combined cycles which are using these gas turbines quite often have to operate on a load cycling duty or in the intermediate load range, so that not only the design point performances but also the off design efficiency has to be as high as possible to ensure the plant profitability. Nowadays however its transient behavoiur, its ability to strat quickly and reliably, are key parameters when selecting the plant. This paper describes a method developed for the calculation of the transient performances of combined cycles, from no-load situations, including cold conditions, to full load. The results for a cold start-up of a one pressure level combined cycle are discussed.
