Note:
An innovative small scale downdraft biomass gasifier will be installed in CREAR laboratories north of Florence. With a maximum capacity of 100 kg/h (moisture content 15% db maximum) the plant will deliver up to 50kWe net power to the national grid. The gasification system has been designed and manufactured by IISc (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India) and the objective of activities is to test the innovative technology, unprecedented for Italy, with agro-residues available at the site.
An agro-energy short chain will be assessed to secure feedstock for sustainable energy conversion, two Tuscany farms partners of a regional project will collect and deliver the olive and grapevine pruning residues to be converted by the plant.
The article will sum-up the major innovative aspects of the technology and its advantages, and will describe the research activity expected to be implemented.
