Note:
In this two parts paper we discuss the actual potentialities and limits of OTM and their integration in IGCC power plants. In Part A we first describe the state of the art of OTM in terms of membrane materials, operating principles and module design.
Then we present a one dimensional finite element model developed in MatlabTM with the aim of evaluating oxygen flux, streams composition along the membrane and membrane area for a given separation efficiency. In Part B we have performed the full plant heat and mass balance evaluation. In this step the membrane model has been integrated in an IGCC power plant simulation (developed also in Aspen PlusTM) with the aim of evaluating the overall plant performances.
