CFD study of GDI for Lamborghini V12 engine

Note:
In four-stroke engines direct injection increases power and fuel economy, which is further improved by charge stratification, due to pumping loss reduction and better combustion efficiency at partial loads.
This paper relates to a numerical study carried out by means of AVL FIRE 8.5 to investigate the possibility to adopt the GDI solution in a V12 Lamborghini engine. Comparison is given between the original PFI and a virtual GDI engine. Till now, the
study has only considered homogeneous-charge operation. Results show the benefits of direct injection in terms of charge cooling and increased trapped mass.
