Note:
The paper describes a reduced kinetic scheme for the evaluation of the main chemical species (particularly NO and CO) in premixed turbulent fíame and its application to a CFD combustion model for spark ignition engines. The proposed mechanism is based on the kinetic solution of three transport equations for NO, CO and H, coupled with the partial equilibrium of the so-called water-shuf e equations to derive the OH, O and H2 concentrations. The remaining species are computed applying the element conservation. The chemical scheme has been embedded into the multidimensional code FOAM. In the conclusive result section a wide comparison of experimental and computed values is
presented, showing the reliability of the model for the prediction of the engine performance and emissions at different air-fuel ratio.
