Note:
Designing solar facilities, which give a good yield to the real demands along the whole year, requires a deep study of the market available technologies. Real weather data, energy demands as thermal load and DHW (Domestic Hot Water) consumption data are also required in an economic analysis considering initial amount and operating costs. The experimental facility at UC3M consists on a field of 50m2 flat plate solar thermal collectors, two thermal storage tanks, one for each application and a water condensed single-effect LiBr absorption cooling machine. From experimental test campaigns, a data base with all facility temperatures and flows is available at UC3M, in addition to weather conditions data. Measurements have been taken every ten minutes along the last three years. To calculate the DHW demand, real data of a dwelling block has been
collected. In addition to this, the climatizing thermal load has been calculated. Results show that the facility can give 60% of DHW demand, which is mandatory in Spanish new buildings nowadays, together with the total climatizing demand of common areas inside the block. A proprietary non-steady simulation model has been developed to analyze the facility behaviour for DHW and for the combined use of DHW and AC., using real data. A thermo-economic analysis, taking into consideration absorption machine operating conditions due to COP variation with thermal load and working temperature changes, shows that with the combined application for DHW and climatizing, payback period is shorter due to higher operating period along the year.
