Note:
In the last decade the Italian air-conditioning market has grown exponentially and it is today the largest in Europe. Only the room air-conditioners (RAC) installed stock, which was in 1996 about 2 million units, reached at the end of 2004 about 9 million units, according to a real market data. With this background, and bearing in mind that for Italian end-users both the electricity cost is raised of about 18% from 2002 to 2006 and the methane gas costs raised of about 1,7% in 2004-2005 thermal year (for a domestic use), it is more and more important to evaluate what could be the introduction’s impact of solar airconditioning technologies in energy and economic terms in Italy. In this paper the potential for solar heating and cooling systems (SCC) for new residential buildings in Italy is investigated. A statistical survey of the Italian building stock is carried out in order to assess which construction typology is more representative in the different areas considered; as result two reference building are selected and designed. Heating and cooling loads for four climatic areas are calculated through a dynamic simulation model. Therefore the energetic performances for a SCC system serving the selected reference building are simulated with a simplified simulation tool (i.e., SACE tool) and the obtained results are analyzed in economic terms in order to assess the market perspectives.
