Note:
In this paper a detailed model of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) tube and its pre-reformer is presented. The cell under investigation consist of the SOFC tube and a pre-reformer. This last component is a tube-and-shell type. Both SOFC tube and pre-reformer are discretized along their axes. Detailed models of the kinetics of the shift and reforming reactions are introduced in order to evaluate their rates of reactions along both the SOFC and pre-reformer axes. Energy, moles and mass balances are performed for each slice of the components under investigation, allowing the calculation of temperature profiles.
In case of the SOFC tube, detailed models are introduced in order to evaluate its overvoltages. On the basis of these models, temperatures, pressures, chemicaln compositions and electrical parameters are evaluated for each slice of the two components under investigation. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is performed in order to investigate the influence of the design parameters on the performance of the system.
