Theoretical analysis of an organic Rankine cycle using dimethyl ether as a working fluid

Pubblicazione

Autore: I. Kustrin, M. Tuma

Collana: CA - 49 - Perugia 1994

Note:
In recent studies, dimethyl ether has been shown to be a suitable substance, in terms of its thermodynamic and physical properties, for use in organic Rankine cycles as a working fluid. A simple cycle with dimethyl ether is thermodynamically compared to cycles using R12, isobutane, ammonia and water at some chosen realistic boundary conditions. The comparison includes thermal and secondlaw efficiencies, mass flows, volume flows and turbine powers. According to this study dimethyl ether could replace R12. If physical properties, such as thermal conductivity, viscosity, toxicity, inflammability etc. were considered, dimethyl ether could be a very suitable replacement even for other substances not covered in this paper.
